Pillow Talk are a unique combination of musicians who play a mixture of styles from pop to jazz to rock with some comedy thrown in for good measure.
Pillow Talk were formed a couple of years ago to provide jazzy accompaniments to beat poets in York, playing for people such as Adrian Spendlowe. The band expanded their set to include an ever increasing variety of songs with unusually absurd lyrics in a variety of styles, becoming well-liked members of a growing York music scene in 2000.
There are currently 8 members - James Tall/Harmless (guit/vox), Daniel Cheeseboard (keys/vox), Jonathan Heart-2-Harte (bass/vox), Gideon Retch (drums), Dr. Roland Parker (surgical bass), Bernard Beard (aggressive bass), Rodney Plotter (percussion) & Christian Smooth (drums, percussion & height) - who rotate around depending on availablity.
The band have recorded a 19 track concept album entitled Purely Platonic and are due to record a follow up album entitled Painful Love. Following the release of the debut album, the band performed at a huge number of gigs including the York Woodstock outdoor festival as headliners (attended by an estimated 4000 people) and supports with UK bands Ash and the Lightning Seeds.
The 'Talk have a knack of making audiences enjoy themselves, having won crowds over in situations ranging from "Sit down and Stare" music studio show-cases to raucous pub-club environments and outdoor student festivals. An engaging band with a musically confident, individual style, Pillow Talk are beginning to take gigs outside of York, in Nottingham and further south in the UK, playing as a 4 piece.
